The General Data Protection Regulation, commonly referred to as the GDPR, is a large-scale European Union regulation that went into effect on May 25, 2018. At a high level, it dictates what rights users have over all data that is collected about them.

Specifically, we will be going through the parts of the document most relevant to businesses and organizations. Some parts of the GDPR are written for member states within the EU, outlining their responsibilities, which is not within the scope of this course.
