History
KMI Learning was founded in 1999 by Mark Colasante and Joel Copeland. We joined our skills and varied work histories to create an end-to-end eLearning company. From the beginning KMI has emphasized the best in leading but proven technology, a high degree of creativity and a responsiveness to customer needs that is unrivaled in the industry.
KMI has prospered through the dot-com bust and through the recent downturn because we never sold “vaporware,” because the underlying argument for eLearning only gets stronger during lean times, and because we never fell into a one-size-fits-all mindset.
The company has grown steadily and has been consistently profitable since its inception. We carry no debt and are anchored by a number of large, long-term contracts. Two of the most notable of those are:
- The Accenture Academy: KMI has been the primary technology partner for this initiative since its inception in 2001. Through the Academy Accenture sells online training to its multinational clients including Shell, Volvo, BASF, Unilever and others. KMI developed the LMS that delivers and tracks Academy content as well as over 500 courses for the Academy’s 110,000+ users.
- The TRAIN Initiative: TRAIN is a national learning portal for the Public Health Workforce based on KMI’s LMS. It is funded by Bioterrorism Preparedness money from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). TRAIN is presently the only LMS and course repository for 26 state departments of health, the Medical Reserve Corps and a division of the CDC representing over 60% the Nation’s Public Health workers and other first responders. TRAIN presently has nearly 800,000 registered users.
KMI’s story has always been about flexibility and reliability. Everything, and we mean everything, from your LMS configuration, to the integration with your existing systems, to the courseware designed just for you, to the pricing model we negotiate, everything is adapted to fit you and your needs. Our processes fit you, you don’t have to adapt to inflexible technology or business models. And we do what we say we will. We don’t miss deadlines and if we quote you a price, that’s the price you’ll pay.
